I am a student completing a Ph.D. in International Psychology, a subfield of psychology that highlights culture as the primary factor that shapes and influences our thoughts and behaviors. We had invited two adult family members of students in this program to travel to Bamako so that I could meet them and learn more about their experiences. Because of the insecurity that has forced them to leave their homes, it is unsafe for me as a foreigner to travel to the area where Tandana’s programs operate, so every year we organize a meeting in Mali’s capital. I relish this opportunity to spend time face to face with our team members and some of our partners.
